Wat Nong Bua, Ubon Ratchathani

This Isan-style ancient temple is located only five kilometers from Ubon Ratchathani's city hall. The outstanding architecture of this temple is a rectangular pagoda with a small golden chedi on the top believed to be inspired by Maha Bhothi Wiharn, Buddha Khaya of India; holy place of birth of the Lord Buddha. The stupa is deliberately designed with local Isan arts. On the four corners of pagoda base, stand sculptures of garuda with seven-head naga. Next to those are mara figures at the base of the chedi following with eight monk figures a little above on every side of the pagoda. The next level above there are identical sculptures of the Lord Buddha's ten incarnations on all four sides of the pagoda. From this level to the top are sculptures of Buddha images in different attitudes collaborated with kanok pattern. The temple hall was built into three-side gable style with beautifully decorated arc-shape roof to house the Buddha image in an attitude of slumber.
